FARMING Biodynamic practicing
Mario Macciocca, former Italian national football player, turned wine maker. Mario works with four hectares of biodynamic vineyards on red soil of volcanic origin, at an altitude above sea level of about 380 meters, gently sloping and with maximum sun exposure.
Mario predominantly grows Cesanese, which is sheltered from cold and temperate winds by the Scalambra mountains. He also grows Passerina and Malvasia Puntinata. In the cellar Mario works only with spontaneous fermentation and native yeasts.
A strikingly unfiltered rosato on the orange-y side of pink, 'Monocromo #3' glows a beautiful, cloudy peach color in the glass. Salty grapefruit on the nose, with fresh citrus rind, apricot, and quince, and a light, alluring smokiness. This rosé has it all — sweet, sour, and savory — and leans into the dried grapefruit peel, pink peppercorn, and a strong — almost tropical — strawberry note laying over the whole thing, with a bit of herb and spice on the finish. A perfect balance of bright floral notes with a mineral undertone and a touch of fun and funky stone fruit. Tart, tangy, and eminently tasty!
