Domaine Kumpf et Meyer was founded in 1997 by Sophie Kumpf and Philippe Meyer, both children of Alsatian winegrowers. They worked organically since the beginning. In 2010 Philipe left, and Sophie continued work at the domaine, assisted by Julien Albertus. Julien began transitioning to biodynamic techniques in the vineyards. The domaine encompasses 16 hectares spread out on 70 small parcels extending 15 km north to south across 5 communes in Alsace. Utopiste is a gewürztraminer, harvested at full maturity, macerated on its skins for 15 days and aged a full year.This wine is simultaneously gorgeous and explosive with lightly musky aromas and flavors of muskmelon, papaya, tea leaves, church incense, and dry honey spread out across the palate. Grippy tannins and white pepper embellish a finish that goes on for ages.
