Domaine Belargus Anjou Blanc Quarts 2020
Quarts is a south-facing lieu-dit of Quarts de Chaume which before the French Revolution was in the hands of the sieureurs de Haute Guerche. They had tithed a quarter of this parcel’s wines to the Abbey of Ronceray in Angers for generations, a tradition now enshrined in the name of the appellation – Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru. This cuvée, however, is not a Grand Cru wine since it is a chenin made in a dry style which entitles it to carry the more generic Anjou AOP. Domaine Belargus controls 3.08-hectares of vines in this notable site where they make two wines and a portion of a third: Quarts Anjou (dry), Quarts Grand Cru (late harvest), and Ultra (essentially an S.G.N. from Le Veau, Quarts, and Rouères).
