Leah Angles Collioure Divay 2024
Type: Red
Grape: Grenache
Region: Collioure, Roussillon, France
Style: Still, medium-bodied, whole-bunch, dry
Flavor: Dark red fruit, garrigue, Mediterranean spice, fresh and electric despite the sun-drenched terroir
The bottle: Hand-harvested from steep schist hillsides above the Mediterranean. Whole-bunch fermentation in stainless steel with dry stems added. Tiny amount of SO2 after malo, none at bottling. Unfined, unfiltered, touch of CO2 kept for lift.
The producer: Leah Angles started as a chemist before falling into wine. She trained at Coume del Mas and worked harvests in Hawkes Bay and Bordeaux before launching her own label in 2020. "Divay" means wine in her grandmother's Malagasy dialect. She farms 5.5 hectares entirely by hand on some of the most dramatic terrain in the south of France.
