A dry Pinot Noir rose with the chalky grassiness of a good Sancerre blanc - which is more or less the point. Daniel Chotard was a teacher and a musician and a distinctly reluctant heir to the family's vines in Crezancy-en-Sancerre, until the work got hold of him; his son Simon runs the domaine today, farming with organic treatments and fermenting with native cellar yeasts alone. Crezancy carries a bit more clay than the rest of the appellation over the same Kimmeridgian marl, which gives the Chotard wines an unusual balance of texture and mineral cut, and the rose shows it.

The Story

Crézancy-en-Sancerre, in the Cher department (18): a village just a few kilometres south-west of the famous Sancerre hill. At 5 rue des Fontaines, in the hamlet of Reigny, DOMAINE CHOTARD welcomes lovers of fine wines produced using organic methods.

DOMAINE CHOTARD is a line of farmers and winegrowers spanning more than two centuries, with first names and personalities who have marked the family's career in the vineyard - Marcel and his brother Henri, Daniel and Brigitte, now Simon and Juliette.

The Sauvignon and Pinot Noir grapes, grown in terroirs alternating between limestone and clay, produce wines that respect the AOC tradition, the environment and the typical characteristics of the grape varieties. A trained oenologist, Simon Chotard ensures that his grapes, harvested and sorted by hand, express their specific character. In traditional vintages or productions that highlight the particularities of each parcel, DOMAINE CHOTARD offers lovers of fine wines the chance to discover the fruit of the work of an entire team, with Sancerre wines that are suitable for a multitude of joyous occasions and a large number of fine dishes.
