Muscadines are a native grape to the Southeastern U.S. They thrive in heat and humidity. The grower, Rusty Thompson, was able to farm these without the use of any fungicides whatsoever, either organic or synthetic. Their flavor profile and structure is quite different from vinifera or even hybrid grapes, but still delicious and effortlessly drinkable. We get savory tomato leaf, five spice, and wild plums.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWinemaking: Destemmed fruit was foot tread, then macerated for 7 days with gentle punchdowns as needed to keep the cap wet (typically twice a day). The wine was then pressed off and finished fermentation in a 50\/50 mix of neutral French and American oak barrels, aging on its full fermentation lees with weekly lees stirring. Racked a week before bottling in May of 2024.
